Using the Food Exchange System

Once you have determined your daily caloric intake requirements, you need to choose foods from the six food groups. Use the proper serving sizes and the recommended food exchanges based on your caloric needs. You will use either the Low Glycemic or Higher Glycemic diet plans.

One food exchange equals one serving of each food listed on the food exchange lists (1 exchange = 1 serving size).The main advantage of the exchange system is that you can choose a variety of food. The exchange system helps you adjust to a healthy eating behavior which ultimately allows you to accomplish your weight goals.
