Determine Your Daily Caloric Intake Needs

There is no way to know exactly how much weight you can lose. The lowest weight possible for you depends partly on your self-determination, self-discipline, and on your metabolic capacity. For you to be successful at losing the unwanted fat and keeping it off, you must participate in a formal exercise program. Exercise will increase muscle tissue — and muscle is what burns fat.

Once you have a long-range weight goal in mind, the next step is to determine how many calories you can consume to achieve your goal. No matter what your present weight, your first goal should be to lose 10 percent of your total body weight.

Once you have reached your first goal, set your second 10 percent goal, and so on until you have reached your idea body weight. By losing weight in stages, you will have a sense of achievement and reaching your target body weight will not seen as difficult. Use the formula on the following page.
