- Understand that you and only you are responsible for managing your weight. Realize that your weight loss program is only a tool that you are responsible for using it effectively.
- Accept the fact that you will relapse into old eating and exercise habits. It may seem strange to read this after you have expended all that effort to lose weight and change your eating habits.
- Don't panic! Don't feel guilty! This is a normal occurrence in recovery from all kinds of bad habits and addictions. However, it is important to take immediate action. Your first step is to analyze why you are gaining weight and then take steps to stop it. It is best to view your setback as a learning experience.
- Make a list of rewards that you will give yourself when you have lost or maintained your ideal weight for a given period of time. Giving yourself small rewards will promote good behaviors and you will tend to repeat them. Do not use food as a reward under any circumstances!
